The Island
Biosphere Reserve

WE ARE PLEASED TO INVITE YOU TO VISIT THE ISLAND OF EL HIERRO AND ENJOY ITS NATURE, ITS WARMTH AND THE HOSPITALITY FOR WHICH ITS PEOPLE ARE FAMOUS.

Of all the Canary Islands, El Hierro is a true paradise waiting to be discovered. This seventh island has always been ignored by conventional tourist, to the satisfaction of those who love it and would like to see it remain exactly as it is. It has also recently been classified by the Unesco as a Biosphere Reserve.

El Hierro is the smallest of the Canary Islands, found on the south-western end of the archipelago. Its 278 km2 surface area contains a variety of landscapes: from the dry lava fields and volcanic formations of the south and west, to the fertile fields of the El Golfo valley with vineyards and plantation in the north-west, and the dense pine woods and laurisilva woods in the centre of the island.

The coast of El Hierro is rocky and very harsh, with inaccessible cliffs up to 3,000 feet high, natural bays and pools which are perfect for a refreshing swim. The Nisdafe plateau contains fields and meadows, whereas El Pinar is rich in fig and almond trees.

Here also, as in the rest of the Canary Islands, it is always spring, with subtropical vegetation in the fertile areas contrasting with the fascinating volcanic heritage of other parts of the island.

Jump on a boat or a plane and come to see us. You will discover an island that you will never forget.
